This page contains non-Coronavirus
commentaries.
For my commentaries about the
Coronavirus crisis, Coronavirus Articles
and Commentaries.
This page mostly contains short comments I’ve posted about news articles on Trib Live. This is the website for three Pittsburgh area newspapers, including my hometown newspaper. I read their website every day. Trib Live is left leaning in its perspective across all three of its newspapers and on its website. The comments at the end of articles are also mostly left leaning, being posted mostly by people from the very blue city of Pittsburgh. As such, my voice is rather unique. That is why I decided to start posting comments, to counter the liberal perspective. There is a 750-character limit to comments, so I need to be concise in my comments, which is not always easy for me to do. The title links open in a new window. The comments are posted in reverse chronological order. Newest on top, oldest at the bottom.
Trump considering ‘full’ pardon for ex-adviser Michael Flynn
This is so good to hear. The
Constitution’s provision of pardon powers to the executive branch was given for
just such a situation as this one, as a check on an overly jealous judiciary.
What was done to General Flynn was despicable. If for no other reason, the court
should have thrown the case out due to absence of Flynn being Mirandized.
Comey’s FBI did the exact opposite; they told him he didn’t need a lawyer. Then
this life was ruined, he was forced into bankruptcy, and his son was threatened
with prosecution, all because he didn’t remember something just right. A pardon
will not restore all of that to him, but it will keep him from an unlawful
imprisonment. He should then sue the FBI for unlawful prosecution.

Lawyer: Chelsea Manning attempts suicide in Virginia jail
This sad situation shows what happens when people with gender dysphoria opt to “identify” as the opposite sex and then for hormones and surgery rather than getting the psychological counseling they actually need. They might feel better initially, but over time, the psychological issues that were never addressed resurface. That is why the rate of suicide post-op (especially a few years later) is no different than pre-op. It is truly sad that political correctness prevents such people from getting the help they actually need.
For those who don’t know, Chelsea used to be Bradley. But he began identifying as a female about a decade ago and underwent a sex change operation in October 2018.

Trump’s challenge: keeping his act fresh in reelection year
I have no idea what this article is talking about. I have been reviewing recent Trump rallies for a project I am working on. The arenas are packed. The crowds are enthusiastic, cheering and chanting throughout the rallies. And that cheering and chanting is just as loud and enthusiastic at the end of the rallies as at the beginning.
What might be happening
is similar to what Trump mentions in a couple of the rallies—a couple of people
get up to go the bathroom, and the media shows the empty seats and says Trump
didn’t fill up the arena. Here, the writer probably sees a few people getting up
to go the bathroom, and he thinks they’re leaving early.

Trump to make first visit of 2020 to Pennsylvania
“Trump’s unexpected win in Pennsylvania in 2016” - Not really, those of us who
saw the enthusiasm for Trump and the complete lack of it for Hillary knew he was
going to win our great commonwealth. It will be the same again this year. As
others have pointed out, just the Dem’s “promise“ (better “threat”) to end
fracking will cost them PA.

Sanders wins top prize, California; Biden surges nationwide
“Party of Diversity” No More
The Democrat Party started out with over 20 candidates for President. They included several “people of color (African-American, Hispanic, Asian), several women, and a homosexual. Now, “It was increasingly looking like a two-man race.” And who are those two choices?
Old, straight white guy #1.
Old, straight white guy #2.
It would
seem that despite all of their claims about diversity and inclusiveness, Dems
only trust old, straight white guys to be President. Of course, Trump fits the
“old, straight white guy” description as well. But still, I do not want to hear
the Dems ever again calling Republicans racist, sexist, or homophobic, as those
labels would fit them just as well based on their primary votes.

The First Impeachment of Donald J. Trump
This three-volume set covers the impeachment of Donald J. Trump that occurred over the fall of 2019 to the winter of 2020. It was yet one more attempt to oust the President from office by Democrats, who never accepted he won in 2016. A complaint about a phone call between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky led to an impeachment inquiry to begin in early September 2019. Along the way, the corruption of Joe Biden that Trump wanted investigated and which led to the impeachment inquiry is discussed.
The above commentaries were posted in March 2020.
