April 2020 Commentaries

By Gary F. Zeolla

These commentaries are continued from March 2020 Commentaries.

This page contains non-Coronavirus commentaries.
For my commentaries about the Coronavirus crisis, Coronavirus Articles and Commentaries.

This page mostly contains short comments I’ve posted about news articles on Trib Live. This is the website for three Pittsburgh area newspapers, including my hometown newspaper. I read their website every day. Trib Live is left leaning in its perspective across all three of its newspapers and on its website. The comments at the end of articles are also mostly left leaning, being posted mostly by people from the very blue city of Pittsburgh. As such, my voice is rather unique. That is why I decided to start posting comments, to counter the liberal perspective.  There is a 750-character limit to comments, so I need to be concise in my comments, which is not always easy for me to do. The title links open in a new window. The comments are posted in reverse chronological order. Newest on top, oldest at the bottom.

Litter piles up at Pennsylvania state parks

These people obviously were never Boy Scouts. Back in the day when I was a Scout, it was drilled into us to leave the campsite neater than when we arrived. At the end of every campout, the last thing we did before getting on the bus to go home was to line up arm’s length apart and walk across the campsite and pick up even the tiniest piece of paper. Too bad more people weren’t taught such manners.

Tornado suspected in New Kensington, heavy winds slam region, 41K without power

All of this happened not too far from my home. Yet somehow, I slept through all of it! No damage in my neighborhood that I can see, except a few overturned garbage cans. And thank God my power did not go out. But my prayers go out to all those affected.

2 tornadoes confirmed in Alle-Kiski Valley as heavy storms ravage region

Turned out there were two tornadoes near my home. One was an EF1 with wind speeds of 100 mph. The other was an EF0 with wind speeds of 70 mph. Both were on the ground for about seven minutes. That said, once again, my heart and prayers go out to all those affected. And I do hope the church is able to rebuild and reopen.

Trib Live. Biden assault allegation prompts GOP attacks, Dem worries

Fox News. Then and now: How evidence in Kavanaugh case compares with Biden accusation.

I wrote extensively about the Brett Kavanaugh proceedings. As I researched the sexual assault allegations against him, it became clear there was no supporting evidence for any of them and much exculpatory evidence against them. But despite those facts, we were told to “Believe all women.” I commented about how extremely dangerous such an attitude was.

Now the tables are turned, and a Dem is in the crosshairs of a #metoo allegation. But this time, there is some supporting evidence for the allegation. But despite that fact, Dems are walking back the “Believe all women” line to “Let’s wait for all of the facts.”

This new attitude is the correct one to have in such a situation. I just wish Dems had realized that back in the fall of 2018.

For my writings about the Kavanaugh proceedings, see my book Tearing the USA Apart. With the new Biden allegations being compared to the Kavanaugh allegations, it would seem my book is relevant again, though that was always the case, as this will be an ongoing issue in our culture.

The First Impeachment of Donald J. Trump

This three-volume set covers the impeachment of Donald J. Trump that occurred over the fall of 2019 to the winter of 2020.  It was yet one more attempt to oust the President from office by Democrats, who never accepted he won in 2016. A complaint about a phone call between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky led to an impeachment inquiry to begin in early September 2019. Along the way, the corruption of Joe Biden that Trump wanted investigated and which led to the impeachment inquiry is discussed.

The above commentaries were posted in April 2020.
