August 2020 Commentaries

By Gary F. Zeolla

These commentaries are continued from July 2020 Commentaries.

This page contains non-Coronavirus commentaries.
For my commentaries about the Coronavirus crisis, Coronavirus Articles and Commentaries.

This page mostly contains short comments I’ve posted about news articles on Trib Live. This is the website for three Pittsburgh area newspapers, including my hometown newspaper. I read their website every day. Trib Live is left leaning in its perspective across all three of its newspapers and on its website. The comments at the end of articles are also mostly left leaning, being posted mostly by people from the very blue city of Pittsburgh. As such, my voice is rather unique. That is why I decided to start posting comments, to counter the liberal perspective.  There is a 750-character limit to comments, so I need to be concise in my comments, which is not always easy for me to do. The title links open in a new window. The comments are posted in reverse chronological order. Newest on top, oldest at the bottom.

Kamala Harris

I picked Kamala Harris to be a frontrunner to be the Democrat presidential nominee at the start of the process. But I didn’t foresee Tulsi Gabbard taking her out during one of the debates. Tulsi took Kamala to task for her enforcing of California’s drug laws, when Kamala was California’s DA. Imprisoning people for illicit drug use is no longer acceptable in the Democrat Party.

But after Joe Biden won the nomination, he committed to picking a woman as his VP running mate. Then later, he committed to that woman being a black woman. That woman was just announced to be Kamala Harris.

Given that many believe Joe is not quite with it, his VP could really be running the show if he were to win the election. As such, in the end, my original prediction could prove to be correct. With Kamala being his pick, she could be said to be the real Democrat presidential nominee for the November 2020 election after all.

Kamala and Kavanaugh

With Kamala Harris now Joe Biden’s pick for his VP running mate, it would be good to remember she was on the Senate Judiciary Committee (SJC) during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings back in the fall of 2018.

The performance of the Democrat Senators on that committee during those proceedings was disgraceful, as I detail in my book Tearing the USA Apart. I only mention Kamala in passing in the book, but whenever I mentioned about the Dems on the SJC, that includes her.

My Tearing Apart book also refutes the claim that President Trump is a racist. Again, with Kamala now the nominee, I am sure Dems and the mainstream media will double down on that lie. Every attack the Trump campaign against her will be said to be due to racism or sexism. That latter charge, I address in my two-volume set God’s Sex Plan.

Tearing the USA Apart: From Kavanaugh, to Incivility, to Caravans, to Violence, to the 2018 Midterm Elections, and Beyond

God’s Sex Plan: Volume One: What the Old  Testament Teaches About Human Sexuality

God’s Sex Plan: Volume Two: What the New Testament Teaches About Human Sexuality

It would seem, with Kamala now on the Dem ticket, these books are more relevant than ever.

Protestors at Woke Mayor's Home

Protesters gather outside Mayor Peduto’s home for second day

Didn’t Mayor Peduto kneel with BLM protestors a while back? Just goes to show that paying homage to this new religion doesn’t protect you from its ire if you break one of its every-changing rules.

Who Gets the Money?

Travelers left more than $5,000 behind in Pittsburgh airport security bins last year

What happens to the money? No mention of that in the article. It should go to some worthwhile charity, but I would bet it is pocketed by the government.

Pittsburgh Pirates No-hit

First Call: Pirates might be ‘trying to sell everything,’ how they were no-hit by White Sox

I am so glad the Pirates/ MLB played a BLM video before the first game of the season. As soon as that woke video began, I shut it off and haven’t watched a Pirates game since. It looks like that video saved me weeks of watching terrible baseball by the worse team in the MLB, a team that is so bad it cannot even get a hit off a mediocre pitcher.

 White House Used in RNC

Takeaways from GOP convention: Promoting power, positivity

“…Trump is exploiting the White House for political purposes in ways none of his predecessors have.”

We are being told to stay at home to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. The White House is the Trumps’ home. As such, you would think the media would commend them for “finally” taking the virus seriously and staying at home.

The First Impeachment of Donald J. Trump

This three-volume set covers the impeachment of Donald J. Trump that occurred over the fall of 2019 to the winter of 2020.  It was yet one more attempt to oust the President from office by Democrats, who never accepted he won in 2016. A complaint about a phone call between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky led to an impeachment inquiry to begin in early September 2019. Along the way, the corruption of Joe Biden that Trump wanted investigated and which led to the impeachment inquiry is discussed.
