Mark 16
1And the Sabbath having past, Mary the Magdalene and Mary [the
mother] of James and Salome bought spices, so that having come they should
anoint Him. 2And very early in the morning on the first [day between
the] Sabbaths [fig., the first day of
the week; i.e., early Sunday morning], they come [or, go] to the tomb, the sun
having risen. 3And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll
away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” 4Then having
looked up, they see that the stone had been rolled away--for it was extremely
large. 5And having entered into the tomb, they saw a young man
sitting on the right, having been clothed in a long, white robe, and they were
frightened.
6And
he says to them, “Stop being frightened! You* seek Jesus the Nazarene, the One
having been crucified. He was raised! He is not here! Look [at] the place where
they laid Him. 7But be going. Say to His disciples and to
Peter that He is going before you* to Galilee; there you* will see Him, just as
He said to you*.” 8And having gone out, they fled from the tomb.
But trembling and amazement were holding them, and they said nothing to anyone,
for they were afraid.
9Now
having risen in the early morning on the first [day between the] Sabbaths [fig.,
the first day of the week; i.e., early
Sunday morning], He appeared first to Mary the Magdalene, from whom He had cast
out seven demons. 10That one having gone, told the ones having been
with Him, while they were mourning and weeping. 11And those ones,
having heard that He is alive and was seen by her, refused to believe.
12But
after these [things], to two of them, while they are walking about, He was
revealed in a different form, while they are going into [the] countryside. [cp.
Luke 24:16,31; i.e., Christ did not
actually
change His appearance, but instead the two men were
kept from recognizing Him.] 13And
those ones having gone, told to the rest, [but] they did not even believe them.
14Later,
while they are reclining [to eat], He was revealed to the eleven, and He
denounced their unbelief and stubbornness, because they did not believe the ones
having seen Him after He had been raised. 15And He said to them,
“Having gone [or, Go] into all the world, proclaim the Gospel to all the
creation. 16The one having believed and having been baptized will be
saved, but the one refusing to believe will be condemned. 17Now these
signs will accompany the ones believing: they will cast out demons in My name;
they will speak with new tongues [fig., languages]; 18they will take
up serpents [see Acts 28:3-6], and if they drink anything poisonous, it shall not harm them; they
will lay hands on infirm [or, sickly] [people], and they will be well.”
19So
then, after He spoke to them, [the] Lord was taken up into heaven, and He sat at
[the] right [parts] [fig., on the right side] of God. 20So having gone out, they preached
everywhere, the Lord working with [them] and confirming the word through the
accompanying signs. So be it!
