Weight Loss/ Starting Over
The following message was posted in the
Weight Trainers United forum
and on my MySpace blog.
It is a follow-up to 2010 Top 100 Chart/ Update.
When I posted my last workout log almost a month ago, my body measurements were:
Bodyweight: 119.4 pounds.
Body Fat: 10.8%.
Lean Body Mass: 106 pounds.
Those measurements were taken on 10/6/10. I took my measurements on Sunday (10/31/10). They now are:
Bodyweight: 113.4 pounds.
Body Fat: 10.2%.
Lean Body Mass: 101 pounds.
So in less than four weeks, I lost six pounds, almost all of it being muscle. This was due to not working out and not having an appetite, both for health reasons. Very depressing. But it does confirm what I say in my powerlifting book, that the older you get the less you can afford to miss workouts as catabolism sets in quickly (p. 104).
I am now lighter than I have been in years. Even when I cut weight for my last few contests, I just made the weight class limit of 114.5. The last I weighed this light was for a contest in 2005, when I weighed-in at 113.5. The last I was this light normally was way back in 2001 when I took a break from lifting when I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which was long before I started powerlifting again. But now, between the break from lifting and the weight loss, I am basically back to where I was then and thus starting over.
But starting over is what I will be doing today (Wednesday, 11/3/10). I will work out for the first time in exactly four weeks. I did go for a couple of short walks the last few days, but that has been it. I will post my first workout log after the first week of training next week as I had been doing.
Not much has changed health-wise. The doctors still haven’t found any meds that really help, or for that matter, what really is wrong with me. But I just cannot wait to work out any longer. So I am praying I am able to slowly get back into it all despite the ongoing problems.
