20th Anniversary of Darkness to Light

By Gary F. Zeolla

Darkness to Light ministry began with the publication of the first issue of my old hardcopy newsletter in July 1991. So this month (July 2011) marks the 20th anniversary of this ministry. Five years ago I wrote an article titled Thanking God for 15 Years of Ministry. It detailed the background and history of this ministry from its founding up to that time, along with some personal background. Here, I would like to bring the story up to date.

In the past five years, I have continued to receive many emails, which I have tried my best to respond to. Most are agreeable and say they are thankful for this ministry. Such emails are always heart-warming. But I of course continue to receive emails that are not so agreeable. With my waning health (more on that in a minute), I am not able to engage in long-winded debates with such people anymore. But I might try to provide a quick response.

I have also published several additional books in the past five years, along with publishing several books in hardcopy format that were formerly only available in eBook format. A big addition has been to publish all of my books in Amazon's Kindle format. I am now selling more copies of my books in this format than in hardcopy and all other ebook formats combined. All of my Christian books are listed at Books and eBooks by the Director./

Meanwhile, I have continued with my Fitness for One and All Web site, and have published two additional books on health and fitness. These are listed at Books and eBooks by the Director.

The last book I published was The Bible and Sexual Relationships Issues. That was a short book and was relatively easy for me to write, only taking a few weeks. It was published earlier this year before my health really collapsed. As such, it very well could prove to be my last book.

However, I have continued to publish both this Darkness to Light email newsletter, along with my FitTips for One and All email newsletter. However, due to my health situation, I had to reduce from publishing each newsletter monthly to each every other month, alternating the newsletters. But given my health, I am not sure if I will be able to continue with even this limited publication schedule.

On another matter, I continued to powerlift, entering one contest a year, breaking several more records and ranking near the top of the various ranking lists each year. But my last contest was in June 2009. And that will probably prove to be my final contest. I can barely work out anymore, let alone compete. As a result, I have been losing weight. Basically, all of the muscle and strength I built up over the years of lifting is now gone.

In fact, my health has deteriorated so much now that I can now barely function at all. I am experiencing extreme fatigue and can barely sleep without meds. But the meds leave me even more fatigued. I feel like I am allergic or sensitive to just about everything and am in a constant allergic reaction, with no energy to do much more than just lie around and watch TV. Doctors have not been able to provide any help. Just typing out this short article is causing me to feel very fatigued.

I mention in the above article about having just gotten a new computer. Well, now, five years later, I really could use a new one again, and not just the PC itself, but given that my all of my peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner) are all over a decade old, I really need a new complete system. But I simply do not have the energy for all of the work that would be involved in setting up the new system, installing and configuring all of the new software, etc. Also, my allergies are such that I am afraid that smells from all of that new plastic and the new PC would cause me problems. Yes, that is how sensitive I now am. As such, I will probably have to make due with my current PC for at least a while longer.

So that is a short overview of what has been happening over the last five years. I thank God that I was able to accomplish quite a bit more before my health completely deteriorated over the last few weeks. But as for the future, I have no idea if I will be doing much more writing. I can only leave it in God's hands.

Update

Since I mention above about needing a new computer system, I should mention that I did finally get a new computer in October 2011. I had lots of problems along the way setting it up and packing up my old system. It was quite a job, but I am thankful I got it done.
