>Subject: I have some questions about the beliefs of JWs [Jehovah’s Witnesses]

What do they really believe except---No Birthdays, Holidays, THE FLAG OF the UNITED STATES. voting, parents.. Upholding our country!!!!!! but nothing positive and destroying families.<

You are correct that JWs do not celebrate birthdays, holidays, salute the flag, hold public office, but I thought that they could vote, but I could be wrong.

As for "destroying families," JWs claim to be pro-family, but only when all members of the family are JWs. They are conditioned to believe that anyone who is not a JW is of the devil and trying to "lead them astray." So they will shun contact with non-JWs except to try to convert them. And yes, this very often causes problems in families.

As for their other beliefs, I discuss many of these on my JW pages. You will especially want to read the two-part article on Are Jehovah's Witnesses a Cult?. It address the legalistic practices of JWs you're being confronted with.

My Scripture Workbook also has chapters on issues relevant to JWs, such as like their denial of the Trinity and attitude toward the secular government. And it has a chapter titled, "Questions for JWs" that addresses miscellaneous JW beliefs.

So I would recommend you start with these resources. What you need now is information. They more you know about JWs the better you will be able to deal with them. There are then many other sites on the Internet addressing JWs. I link to many of these on my links pages. See Jehovah's Witnesses Ministries Sites.

In addition, you could check out the books I list at Counter-Cult Books: Books-A-Million Bookstore Recommendations

>...I just spent 4 days with my daughter and her husband (who got her into the J.W.s ) and it was just like being with a complete stranger and he is a loud mouthed overbearing _________! Is there anything good about the J.W. cult?<

Not really. But it's hard to get them to see that.

> Why are you staying in this country if you all hate it that much?<

They have the same attitude towards any government not just the US.

>Just a few questions I'd like answered....Oh yes I do know they enjoy DRINKING ....As that is what they did while they were here.......<

That's rather surprising. I was under the impression that JWs were supposed to abstain.

>Sincerely....A concerned Mother....

You should be concerned as it is a serious situation. A lot of families have been broken up by the JWs. But again, what you need is knowledge. So please consult the sources I mention above. And my heart and prayers go out to you.

>I just want you to know how much I appreciate your answer to my questions.. I'm glad to know you are not a J.W. My daughter and her husband have been in the J.W. for about 10 years and it is very hard on us as a family....Her husband is very demanding and she goes along with him....He has the say about everything.

We are not getting ready for her oldest daughters wedding and of course being the step dad he is causing problems (as usual)...So any way I'll just keep praying and reading and hope one of these days she wakes up. But I don't think that is going to happen....

Thanks again for answering me...
