Jesus and the Scriptures
Someone posted a message in "alt.christnet.theology" Newsgroup asking if Jesus ever said the Scriptures were infallible. Another person responded by simply saying, "No, He didn't." Below is the message I posted in reply to this response.
I beg to differ. The following Scriptures seem to me to indicate that Jesus did in fact believe in the infallibility of the Scriptures, the OT and His own words, and the future writings of His apostle.
Matt 5:18 - "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
Matt 24:35 - "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away."
Matt 26:54 - "How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?"
Luke 16:17 - "And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail."
Luke 24:25-27 - Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! "Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
Luke 24:44 - Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."
John 10:35 - "If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),"
John 14:26 - "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you."
John 16:12-13 - "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come."
John 19:28 - After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!"
