Political Commentaries for Q1 of 2025
Part Two
This article is continued from Political Commentaries for Q1 of 2025: Part One.
Securing the Southern Border and Removing Criminal Illegal Aliens
The line of the night during Trump’s address to Congress was when he declared that we did not need a new law to secure the southern border as the Biden administration claimed but “a new President.” Since Trump has taken office, there has been a 97% reduction in illegal crossings as compared to a year ago. It just took a President who was serious about securing the border for it to be secured.
Meanwhile, Trump has begun to remove the millions of illegal aliens Biden allowed into the country, starting with the worst of the worst. About 10,000 criminal illegal aliens have already been removed, either sent back to where they came from or to a prison in El Salvador. These deportees include gang members, drug dealers, murderers, sex traffickers, and rapists. Yet, liberals are up in arms about the removals, caring more about criminal illegal aliens than the safety of American citizens.
Telsa Terrorism/ Climate and Jobs Hypocrisy
Some leftists are so upset about Elon Musk’s efforts at rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse they have taken to firebombing Tesla cars, dealerships, and charging stations. That is domestic terrorism, and Trump’s new Attorney General Pam Bondi has vowed to track down and prosecute each and every one of these terrorists. When prosecuted, they could rightly receive up to 20-years in prison. I sure hope that does indeed happen.
In the meantime, as I watch black smoke billowing up from the torched Telsa cars and dealerships, with toxics chemicals being released into the atmosphere from the burning massive batteries, I do not want to hear another word from the left about climate change and the environment. They have proven their attempts at banning gas-powered cars and mandating electric vehicles were never about the environment but just about the left’s ongoing attempts to control people’s behavior, no matter how nonsensical it might be.
The hypocrisy is truly astounding. But it gets even worse. Telsa is an American company. All of its cars are built right here in the good ol’ USA. Tesla employs 150,000 Americans. By attacking Telsa owners, dealerships, and charging stations, the left is trying to hurt an American company and its employees and customers. Yet, Dems claim to be the party of average Americans!
Of course, they say they are doing it to hurt Musk. But Musk owns just 1/8th or 12.5% of Telsa’s stock. If it crashes, it will little affect his massive net worth, but it will hurt all of those employees. It will also hurt those who own Telsa stock, like the state of Minnesota, whose government pensions are tied up in Tesla stock. Former Dem VP Candidate and current Minnesota Governor Tim Walz should have checked that before he cheered for a drop in Telsa’s stock.
Junk Food and SNAP
I worked with the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) supplemental food program back in the 1980s. At that time, WIC gave out food coupons to qualifying mothers and their children. But those coupons could not be spent on just any food. It could only be used to buy foods from an approved list of foods, ones that were deemed to help pregnant and breastfeeding women and infants and children to overcome their common nutrient deficiencies, like iron.
Though I did not always agree with what foods were included on the approved list and what foods were excluded, that still made so much more sense to me than what welfare did in just giving money to qualifying recipients, with no limits on how that money was spent. It was well-known that much of it would be spent on booze, cigarettes, and junk food.
Now, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) as head of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) wants to do something similar to WIC with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, the new name for food stamps). It wants to exclude those benefits from being used to purchase soda and other junk foods.
Conservatives seem conflicted about this proposal. They say it smacks of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s attempt to ban “Big Gulp” type of sodas by limiting the number of ounces a single serving could contain (see RFK Jr. to Lead HHS: Will He Make America Healthy Again?).
However, there is a big difference between people having the freedom to purchase what they want with their own money, and people being restricted as to what they can purchase with taxpayers’ money. The former is a legitimate freedom, while the latter is a legitimate restriction on freedom.
In this case, that restriction will reduce the cost to taxpayers of taxpayer supported medical care through Medicare and Medicaid that would be incurred by that taxpayer funded food assistance being used to purchase unhealthy foods.
Continued Lawfare by the Left
Trump has accomplished much in his now ten weeks in office. But it could be much more if Dems and liberal judges have not been trying to thwart his every move. Dems have challenged in court and activist liberal judges have shot down many of Trump’s attempts at reducing the size of government, protecting the southern border, ejecting criminal illegal aliens, strengthening the integrity of our elections, protecting woman’s sports and privacy, protecting children from sexual mutilation, and on it goes.
Dems are so crazy they could not even vote to keep males out of female sports. That is now a regulation due to an executive order, but a law would be better, as if a Dem becomes President, he (or she) could overturn that order and allow men to go back to beating and beating up women.
Signal Scandal
With all of these great things going on and Dems and media only being able to whine about it, they finally found an issue with which to attack Trump and his administration. A mistake was made, and a reporter was inadvertently invited into a secured chat about military strikes in Yemen against Hoothis terrorists.
The app that was being used was Signal. I have never used it, but I have used WhatsApp. And they appear similar. Both utilize end-to-end encryption. That is prominently mentioned whenever I use WhatsApp. I assume it would be similar with Signal. As such, it is disingenuous for the media and Dems to claim the chat was occurring over an insecure channel.
Granted, Signal (and WhatsApp) are probably not as secure as devices using military grade encryption. And they are definitely not as secure as a discussion taking place in-person in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF). I discuss such in Volume One of my Impeach trilogy, as that is where the depositions of the witnesses were originally conducted before the public hearings. But still, in-person meetings are not always possible, so a secure app is the next best thing.
Thus, all of the complaints about the use of that app are unfounded. But complaints about Jeffrey Goldman being invited into the chat are not. That should not have happened. The only way he could have been is if Michael Waltz, the National Security Adviser, had him in his contacts and inadvertently added him. But Mike has denied even knowing Jeffrey, though Jeffrey claims they have met on a couple of occasions.
When people enter such a chat, sometimes only their initials are displayed. If that happened here, then the reason no one was suspicious is that Jamison Greer is the Commerce Deputy, so they probably assumed J.G. was him not Goldman. The Commerce Deputy would be in such a chat, as the reason we were bombing the Houthis is they have been attacking shipping lanes in the Middle East, which has commerce ramifications.
But whatever the case there, the time of the bombings and the weapons to be used were revealed in the chat but not the locations of the launch sites nor the targets. There is thus much debate as to whether such information is classified or not. I cannot speak to that, but classified or not, it was not wise to revealed such information in such a chat, even if secure and definitely not with a journalist in the chat. However, the attack was successful, and no Americans were harmed. Consequently, the calls for resignations are unfounded.
However, if 13 American soldiers had been killed, if dozens more had been maimed, if a couple hundred of our allies had been killed and maimed, and if 500 Americans, thousands of our foreign allies, and billions worth of military hardware had left behind in enemy territory, and if the land had been left in the control of those who would remove rights from half of the population (i.e., all females), then calls for resignation would have been justified.
I am of course referring to Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. My point here is, not one person was fired in the Biden administration after that debacle, while none of the people calling for the firing of Mike Walz and others in the Trump administration called for anyone to be fired back then. The hypocrisy is truly astounding.
The Bias of NPR
I listen to NPR’s News Now every day, multiple times a day. It is a four-minute newscast that updates hourly. I also listen to Fox News Hourly Update, which has the same format. The difference between the two is striking. Fox reports the news in a “fair and balanced” manner, while NPR is all about anti-Trump bias. They can never say the word “Trump” without adding a “fact check” or some negative comment about Trump. Yet, at a recent congressional hearing, the NPR rep claimed they are not biased. The room laughed when that was said.
If NPR paid its own way, then they would have the right to be as biased as they want. But since they receive taxpayer money, then they should be fair and balanced like Fox. But since they are not but are clearly an arm of the Democrat Party, their taxpayer subsidies should end. And Trump has proposed for that to happen.
A Third Trump Term?
Trump has been trolling Dems and the media about running for a third term. That is not going to happen. The 22nd Amendment is clear that a person can only serve as President for two terms. But some are claiming he could run as J.D. Vance’s VP, have Vance resign, then Trump takes over as President. But the 12th Amendment prevents someone from being VP who is disqualified to be President, so that could not happen either. But it is fun to watch Dems and the media freak out over the thought of eight more years of Trump.
Woke White
This last point has noting to do with politics, but I just couldn’t resist commenting on it.
If there was ever a movie role that cried out for a white actress, it is Snow White. And if there was ever a remake of a classic movie tailor-made for dwarf actors, next to The Wizard of Oz, it would be Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Yet, Disney in its remake of the 88-year-old classic, ignored both of these points.
The remake was originally to be a live action movie. But then Disney cast a Hispanic woman as the lead. Then after pushback from one notable dwarf actor who said it would be stereotyping to hire seven dwarfs, they hired just one dwarf actor and six normal sized persons to play the dwarfs. Those other six were not even white males as in the original but people of color and women.
After pushback from the dwarf community over the passing over of them for the roles they are tailor-made for, Disney reversed course and changed to using CGI rather than live action for the movie. As a result, no dwarf actor landed a job, but that same Hispanic woman still voiced the lead.
But that caused her CGI counterpart to be anything but snow white, so they changed the backstory to her name to not referring to her complexion but to the idea that she was born during a snowstorm. And they changed her being called the “fairness of them all” from referring to her complexion and beauty to her being fair economically, being a socialist, as opposed to the capitalist Evil Queen.
All of this wokism cost Disney at the box office. The movie cost $250 million to make, and another 250 million was spent on advertising. During its opening weekend, it took in just $46 million, then that dropped to $14 million the next weekend. Disney stands to lose hundreds of millions as a result.
Compare that to the original movie, which (in today’s dollars) took in an estimated $1 to 2.5 billion. In fact, it was income from that movie that enabled Walt Disney to build his empire of family friendly programming. But now, Disney has abandoned that legacy in favor of wokism, and families are rejecting it, thank God.
