Pictures

By Gary F. Zeolla

This page displays pictures of all of the shoes mentioned in the two-part article Footwear for Powerlifting and Strength Training. The pictures are presented in the order in which they are discussed in the article. Click any picture for a larger image.

Initial Footwear

For my initial footwear, I do not have close ups of the shoes but only pics of me wearing the shoes. The first three are from when I won National Collegiates in 1981. You can see I'm wearing the same white Nike sneakers for all three powerlifts.

The next pictures are from contests in the early '00s. The first is from IPA World in 2003, showing my boots for squats. The second is from APF PA States in 2006 showing the Nike sneakers I was using at that time for benches. The third is from IPA Iron House Classic in 2005 showing my initial Nike wrestling shoes I used for deadlifts.

Crain Power Squat Shoes

All of the close-up pictures of the following shoes were taken in May 2005. First up are various views of my Crain Power Squat Shoes that I got in March 2005, so they were over a decade old when these pictures were taken. The last pic is of me wearing these shoes for my All-time world record squat at IPA PA States February 28, 2015.

Nike Wrestling Shoes

Below are various views of the Nike wrestling shoes I got in May 2005, so they were a decade old when these pictures were taken. I wear these for deadlifts. The last pic is of me wearing these shoes for RAWU PA States in June 2009, pulling 400 @114s for a new RAWU record.

Nike Sneakers

Below are various views of the Nike sneakers I got sometime in the fall of 2010, so they were almost five years old when these pictures were taken. I wore these for benches at IPA PA States in February 2015, but the only picture I have of me benching at that contest does not show my feet.

Adidas Powerlifts 2.0 Training Shoes

Below are various views of the Adidas Powerlifts 2.0 Training Shoes that I tried in May 2015, but returned due to them not being the right size and not being quite what I wanted.

Nike Romoleos 2s, Size 6.5, Black/ Red/ White

Below are various views of the Nike Romoleos 2s, Size 6.5, Black/ Red/ White that I tried in May 2015, but returned due to them not being the right size and not being quite what I wanted.

Nike Romoleos 2s, Size 6.0, Red/ Gold

Below are various views of the Nike Romoleos 2s, Size 6.0, Red/ Gold that I tried in May 2015, but returned due to the arches digging into my heels and not being quite what I wanted.

Adidas AdiPower IIs, Size 6.0, Red/ Black

Below are various views of the Adidas AdiPower IIs, Size 6.0, Red/ Black that I kept and really like for use on benches and other upper body exercises.

New Balance Sneakers

I'm not sure when I got my New Balance sneakers, but it was probably sometime in the late '00s, so there are probably between 5-10 years old. I was using them for hitting my heavy bag, jump squats and deadlifts, and various other lifting exercises other than the Big 3.

Adidas Title Run Basketball Shoes

I got Adidas Title Run basketball shoes in May 2015 for doing jump squats and deadlifts and a few other exercises, and they are working very well for those purposes.

Adidas Sneakers

I’m not sure when I got my Adidas sneakers, but it was probably sometime in the late '00s, so there are probably between 5-10 years old. they work well for walking shoes.

Coleman Sneakers

I got two pairs of these shoes on October 18, 2015. They were discounted more than 50%, so I couldn't resist getting both pairs K-mart had in my size. The above Nike and Adidas sneakers were getting worn, I so am wearing one pair of these new Colemans for walking and the other for my bench assistance workouts.

Everlast Sneakers

I also got these shoes on October 18, 2015 at K-mart for 66% off. My New Balance shoes were getting worn, so I thought I would wear these for hitting my heavy bag. But they don’t have much of a heal and felt awkward, so I will use my older Adidas sneakers instead. But the Everlasts are very comfortable and look very nice, so I will wear them when going out.
