The following emails are commenting on the discussion Tongues and the Baptism with the Spirit. The emailers' comments are in black and enclosed in "greater than" and "lesser than" signs. My comments are in red.

>Just on what I've read of your response to a Pastor who believes that speaking in tongues is prerequisite to receiving the Holy Spirit, I commend you. I agree with you and do believe that you handled his "ignorant courage" wisely and graciously. I understand that you have been Sealed by the Holy Spirit...so we are brothers!

Continually set the record straight! Of course, all praise be to God!

Thanks for the kind comments. And I agree: God deserves the praise!

>Gary,

I recently read your email discussions with Reverend Dinwiddie. First of all, I must say, I attended (without taking membership) a United Pentecostal Church. I agree that they feel their 'religious experience' is above all others. I attended this church for about 2 years.

During this time I always felt like 'less of a Christian' because I had never spoken in tongues, even though I was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ I was still looked at as an outsider. Which was fine with me because from the 'outside looking in' I could concentrate more on the Word of God and what the Bible said, while not having to worry about what was going on around me.

I am sure it amazed them to some degree that although I 'never received the Holy Spirit' with evidence of speaking in tongues, I had many people tell me how I 'glowed' when I worshipped God, just like many of them. I also had people look at me with a questioning glance when I experienced dreams and visions that God gave me (the church questioned HOW someone like me could have such a close walk with God, yet never 'received the Holy Spirit').

My walk with God was not based on whether I had spoken in tongues as far as I was concerned, it was the FACT that the Holy Spirit was in me, guiding me, teaching me, and I was no different than them, except for the fact that I felt others could have the Holy Spirit IN them without speaking in tongues.

I'll keep this short, as I'm sure you get enough emails to plow through :)

Great discussion!

Thanks for sharing your story. It does sound rather familiar!
