Come,
Desire of nations, come!
Fix in us Thy humble home:
Rise, the woman’s conqu’ring seed,
Bruise in us the serpent’s head;
Adam’s likeness now efface,
Stamp Thine image in its place:
Final Adam from above,
Reinstate us in Thy love.
The preceding is the final stanza from this popular Christmas carol (Hymnal.net). Many people are confused as to what it means. It comes from the first prophecy in the Bible of a coming Redeemer and Paul’s description of the work of Christ.
And I will put enmity [or, hostility] between you [the serpent] and between the woman [Eve] and between your seed and between her Seed. He will keep [Heb., bruise] your head, and you will keep [Heb., bruise] His heel” (Genesis 3:14-15; ALT).
For just as in Adam all die, in the same way also in Christ all will be given life (1Corinthians 15:22; ALT3).

The Analytical-Literal Translation of the Old Testament (ALT: OT) is available in four volumes. This Old Testament is based on the Greek Septuagint (LXX). The LXX is a third century B.C.
